Laurence Stephen Lowry, 'Charles on the table'
Laurence Stephen Lowry (British, 1887 – 1976)
Charles on the table
inscribed, signed and dated ‘Charles’ (lower left), ‘LS Lowry 1964’ (lower right)
pencil on paper
5.1/8 x 6.1/2 in. (13 x 16.8 cm.)
Provenance: From the collection of Monty Bloom, a noted businessman and discerning collector whose close friendship with L.S. Lowry shaped one of the most significant private holdings of the artist’s work. Bloom’s collection reflected his refined yet eclectic taste, ranging from early Lowry sketches and signed prints to sculpture, Chinese works of art, and pieces by Sven Berlin. Many works were acquired directly from the artists themselves and remained with Bloom until his death in 1996, thence by descent through the family.
