Circle Jules Cheret (French, 1836-1932)
‘Concert Parisien’, a poster for the Paris Concert in the Belle Epoque period
52.5/8 x 37.1/2in. (including frame)
Condition: The paper has yellowed, there are some creases mainly to upper edges, the colours are good. There are associated print marks around the edges. Newly framed behind Perspex in limed wood frame.
We have been unable to find out who designed this poster. It seems to be an unfinished work from the late 19th Century. In the absence of this detail it may never have been used but is therefore rare. It was definitely made in this period and has the associated signs of age. The dancer is performing with gay abandon exposing her thigh and ribbon stocking.
